My notes from \u201cGoing mobile\u201d MobileConnection Keynote by @AaronHillegass<\/a>\u00a0.\u00a0 Key points:<\/p>\n

-Mobile Sync is Hard\/Expensive<\/p>\n

– 78% of apps purchased are for iOS, 4% Android, 6% MS, 7% RIM.\u00a0 Means should look to iOS apps to lead the way from a style and cut perspective.\u00a0 (Innovation will happen on that platform first because of the volume).<\/p>\n

-If you want to have an app work on all major platforms, will be expensive, unless you just want an app, and don\u2019t care if it looks \u2018delightful\u2019.<\/p>\n

-Want delightful on major platforms?\u00a0 Have to go native on each.\u00a0 HTML5\/etc will just bring mediocrity into the game.\u00a0 Look at Google Apps\u2026. 7 years of the best programmers with a clear vision, and their word processor app is mediocre at best.<\/p>\n

-Really need a cross functional team working on your mobile app if you want it to be successful (lower the risk).\u00a0 Designer, App Programmer, WebService programmer, Management, User need to all be part of the team, but watch out for too many people in the game too.\u00a0 This is classic scrum team advise.<\/p>\n

-Be aware, mobile (and computing in general) is in a Coevolving situation.\u00a0 (Like Cheetah and Gazelle.. as Cheetah gets faster, Gazelle has to either to stay alive)\u00a0 Mobile Coevolving with User demand and Capacity of tools & process.\u00a0\u00a0 (as the tools\/process gets better, the user demands go up too).\u00a0 Side effect = more complex apps are being expected\/asked for\u2026 which up\u2019s the risk.<\/p>\n

-He certainly believes that HTML5 is not the answer\u2026 Native apps are the path for the long term to \u201cFree hour human potential\u201d, which Steve Jobs believes in as well..\u00a0 (computers = tool that allows for us to be better than we are without it)<\/p>\n

Overall, a basic presentation on getting into Mobile app dev.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t find it extremely useful since my team has been doing Mobile app dev for years, but some good points for all to consider when diving in as well as maintaining apps long term.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
