{"id":251,"date":"2011-04-20T14:57:56","date_gmt":"2011-04-20T14:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mikekuphal.azurewebsites.net\/?p=251"},"modified":"2011-04-20T14:57:56","modified_gmt":"2011-04-20T14:57:56","slug":"my-take-aways-from-which-platforms-do-you-bet-on-panel-discussion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mikekuphal.com\/?p=251","title":{"rendered":"My Take Aways From &#8216;Which platforms Do You Bet On&#8217; Panel Discussion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speakers: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/thurrott\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paul Thurrott<\/a>, moderator; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/saurik\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jay (saurik)\u00a0Freeman<\/a>, Cydia; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/tylerlessard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tyler Lessard<\/a>, RIM;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/AaronHillegass%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Aaron Hillegass<\/a>, Big Nerd Ranch, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twitter.com\/scobleizer%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Scoble<\/a>; Romi Mahajan, Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>This session was a free for all that jumped around quite a bit.\u00a0 I liked the informality of the talk points as it felt more genuine to me in this format.<\/p>\n<p>Main take aways\/talking points I got were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.yammer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yammer<\/a>\u2026 adopted virally at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rackspace.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rackspace<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Trend to invest in customer driven technologies\u00a0is what is going to happen in the consumerization of IT.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>We (the users)\u00a0are bringing technology into the corporation.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>IT needs to adjust to that.\u00a0 Be an enabler instead of a policy enforcer.<\/li>\n<li>Carriers are not the friend of innovation though their contributions are important to the ecosystem.\u00a0 They are needed, but don\u2019t get much credit from the user base.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.feedly.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Feedly<\/a> app is similar to <a href=\"http:\/\/flipboard.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FlipBoard<\/a>.<span>\u00a0 Feedly took approach to support all\u00a0<\/span>platforms via\u00a0 HTML 5 implementation.\u00a0 FlipBoard focuses just on iPad.\u00a0 Is feedly\u2019s\u00a0interaction\/UI good enough since compromises needed to be taken to work on all\u00a0major platforms?<\/li>\n<li>Personal note: I was shocked at how many people in the audience didn\u2019t know about the FlipBoard app.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>(Based off of number of people writing during the FlipBoard background\u00a0discussion (which was brief)).<\/li>\n<li>Native vs HTML.. Native will always \u2018win\u2019 from security\/features\/etc\u2026 can always do better.<\/li>\n<li>Group seems to believe no one winner (platform wise) will come out of this deal. (Similar to CC cards\u2026 Amex, Visa, MC example was used.)<\/li>\n<li>Tyler Lessard mentioned: 12\/24 months\u2026 devices will become our wallets.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Scoble says they already are.<span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Biggest fear for Aaron Hillegass: \u201cThe death of board-em\u201d<span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>You tend to seek out more hearty meals when board\u2026 With a phone\/mobile device: you\u00a0get Frito\u2019s instead, meaning just little bites of info, but never a full meal.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>(This has lead to kids not knowing how to entertain themselves.)<\/li>\n<li>HTML5 does not equal \u201cThin client\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Speakers: Paul Thurrott, moderator; Jay (saurik)\u00a0Freeman, Cydia; Tyler Lessard, RIM; Aaron Hillegass, Big Nerd Ranch, Robert Scoble; Romi Mahajan, Microsoft.
